Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - The Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries reaffirmed the position and decision of the GCC Supreme Council which fully supports Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and the maintenance of peace and security of the Kingdom of Morocco. This unwavering position also includes supporting the autonomy initiative as the only solution to the Sahara conflict within the framework of the Kingdom of Morocco's sovereignty and national and territorial integrity.
This was reaffirmed at the end of the joint working session, which was held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This meeting was attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Qatari Foreign Minister, current Chair of the GCC Session, underline the statement that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries reaffirmed their unwavering support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara. The Chair of the Session also added their strong commitment and attachment to the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as the integrity of their territory. The GCC also supports relevant UN decisions regarding Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara region.
Meanwhile, GCC Secretary General, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, reiterated the position and resolution of the Gulf Cooperation Council supporting Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, and highlighted the importance of strategic cooperation between the GCC and the Kingdom of Morocco.
This meeting is part of the strong relations and comprehensive and renewed strategic partnership between Morocco and the GCC countries, the foundation of which was laid by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and his brothers the leaders of the GCC member countries, since the implementation of the Morocco – GCC Summit which was held on April 20, 2016 in Riyadh.
